Serpico by Croud and Salesforce launch fundraiser to keep children reading

Together with Salesforce, we're delighted to launch our round-the-world challenge for digital reading charity, Worldreader.

Together with Salesforce, we're delighted to launch our round-the-world challenge for digital reading charity, Worldreader.

Across the globe, one of the biggest impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic has been on our education systems, with UNESCO sharing that 1.5 billion children and young people have had their education disrupted by the pandemic. UN research also found that 40 million young children have missed out on early childhood education in their critical preschool years, nearly 22 million of whom are in South Asia.

To help combat this, Serpico by Croud has partnered with Salesforce to launch a virtual round-the-world challenge for Worldreader. Worldreader is a global, not-for-profit organisation, which supports vulnerable and underserved communities with digital reading solutions that help children and young people read and improve their learning outcomes.

Travelling the globe to raise £24,901 for Worldreader

The aim of the challenge is to collectively walk, run, cycle or swim 24,901 miles - the circumference of the globe - in time for UNESCO World Book Day on Friday 23rd April. In doing so, we hope to together raise £24,901 for Worldreader and their ‘Read to Kids’ campaign, which supports Delhi’s poorest communities. The programme, which has reached over 200,000 families to date, seeks to promote the school readiness of young children by empowering caregivers and teachers to read to and with children via their mobile phones.

Our fundraising target of £24,901 would support 10 primary schools in Delhi state, India. Any additional funds raised will go towards Worldreader’s Keep Children Reading campaign, which was launched in response to the learning crisis caused by the pandemic, and has reached 500,000 families in the past 12 months, providing them with a free library of digital books.
